São Batolomeu de Messines, Silves, Algarve Portugal
São Bartolomeu de Messines, belongs to the municipality of Silves, on the
border with the Alentejo (next Ourique, Odemira Almodovar and the District of Beja) and the municipality of Loulé. It is located at about 17 km from Silves, about 10km Alte and about 25km from Querença and Loulé. is a village rich in remains of the past, where you can find megalithic monuments that date from 4000 BC (Neolithic tombs of the Monte Alfarrobeira, Cerro da Vilarinha and Gregórios).
In the village, is worth mentioning the beautiful Church (XVI century), with its large atrium, which
stands out from other buildings by the contrast between the white walls and red sandstone masonry in the dark.
Inside, you can see the gilded altar, the pulpit with the marble staircase in the region and religious images of the sixteenth century.
