Portimão Museum is a dream come true in Portimao. This cultural facility that pays tribute to a people and a county that for years lived almost exclusively from the sea, was recently awarded the Museum of the Year 2010 by the Council of Europe, it was the second portuguese facilitie who received the distinction in more than 30 years history of this honorable award.
Situated in the old cannery La Rose, the collection of Portimão Museum, includes industrial marine heritage, archaeological, ethnographic and underwater heritage, and the collection Manuel Teixeira Gomes (President of the Republic between 1923 and 1925), documentary records, photographs and histories.
The museum have a permanent exibition of the canning process, setting the
operations carried out inside the factory, since when the fish was admitted there for preparation and processing, with all mechanisms of the system, washing and transport tanks and brine, have been restored and preserved for a better understanding of the manufacturing process.
