Monuments of Algarve, Faro, Igreja do Carmo
The Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo (Church of Our Lady of Mount Caramel) or Igreja do Carmo (Church of Caramel) is one of the architectural monuments of the city of Faro, located in Largo do Carmo.
It was built in 1713 by Bishop Antonio Pereira da Silva, was the project leader Father Frei Manuel da Conceicao, Lisbon. In the midle of the same century the building was under major changes, and it was destroyed the original facade. The new layout was designed by master mason Diogo Gonçalves, in 1747. The works continued until 1878 (with the construction of the facade towers).
