Santa Clara Dam
Located on a small plain of southern Alentejo, Odemira municipality, Beja district, washed by the Mira River, as well, in the border of Algarve, norwest of the municipality of Loulé, the dam of Santa Clara was once the largest reservoir in the country Its reservoir covers an area of 1986 hectares.
The whole area of the dam includes breathtaking landscapes of water, hills and valleys, a peace that appeals to the senses, with good conditions for water sports.
Near the road access to the dam, stands the Bridge of Dona Maria, or the Roman Bridge, as also known.
Worth a visit is the parish of Santa Clara a Velha, which is part of the dam.
Santa Clara a Velha is a beautiful village, white and flowery, developed in the shadow of the Church of St. Clare of Assis, keeping is typical rural character.
