Tower Fortress Quartim
Quartim Tower Fortress is part of a set of 3 Strengths, existing in the municipality of Olhão and that in ancient times, ensured the protection of this area of the Algarve coast against piracy attacks.
This tower will have been built in the second half of the thirteenth or around the early fourteenth century. The year 1328 is the probable date of construction by the King El Rey Dom Dinis. Set in a rural area, stands alone guarding the banks of Quelfes stream of Olhão. Of square plan architecture, is in an advanced state of degradation. However, it is still noticeable traces of the support of the wooden floors, the holes and a frieze that decorates the top of the watchtower. It was part of a group of military defenses guarding this side of Algarve coast
The Quatrim Tower Fortress, stands still, solitary in the middle of a farm. This Tower, toghether with the Bias I Tower, are the best preserved of watchmen Towers of the municipality of Olhão. Facing the sea, remains vigilant and silent, takes us to mystical and historical times from pirates age.
