Visit Bengado Windmill (Moinho de Vento do Bengado) in Bengado site, São Brás de Alportel
The Bengado WindMill is located at Bengado site, about 600m from the EN 270 and 4km of São Brás de Alportel.
To get there, starting in São Brás de Alportel, we enter the EN 270, take the direction of Tavira and at Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, in the square of the church go to the Lavadouro street (Lavadouro is a public washing place) and find a panel with two faces: one about the range of the 6 Walks of the Parish and the other about the Route of mills and gardens, then, just follow the instrutions.
At the top of hills, the old windmills are a constant presence.
Recently restored, the Bengado Windmill awaits you, to tell the old stories of the time when their candles gave the people the bread and butter. This mill was built in 1850, Mediterranean-type, fixed, built in stone and shape and an area of 42.50 m2, is an example of mill halter, the oldest drive system by means of rope and use of milestones for the rotation of the roof in search of the best quarter.
