Praia do Barraquinho a lost Paradise Bay
The Praia do Barraquinho Beach is located in the site of Caramujeira, in the area of Porches in Lagoa, Algarve, between Armação de Pera and Carvoeiro, just at west side of Praia de Albandeira beach.
It is known to be a small rocky bay, its also known, because its strong waves, who are frequently used for surfing, and its towering rocks, afford a magnificent coastline view to its visitors.
Barraquinho Beach was a lost paradise from the chaos of Armação de Pera and Carvoeiro.
A lost paradise, that wasn't so noticed if it had not begun to be frequented by some football players, such as Luis Figo.
On Barraquinho beach, there are a wide diversity of very curiously shaped rocks, such as: arches, undercutting at the base of the cliffs, potholes and isolated groups of rocks, shapes and forms resulting from the combined action of the mechanical force of the waves on the cliffs and of the rainwater which dissolves the limestone.
In the area around the Barraquinho beach are green patches of pinewoods and enormous mastic trees, hanging over the deeply furrowed and fissured cliff tops. On the sand and exposed to the marine environment is an abundance of sea orachs, a plant that, so to speak, transpires salt, it being possible in the morning or early evening to see salt crystals glittering on its leaves. When the water is sufficiently clear, you can see the mysterious outlines of the submerged rocks, so that a little snorkelling is recommended to discover the abundant marine life in this section of the coast.
The whole Caramujeira area, has many caves, some as large, that ships can fit in there.
One of these caves was the salvation of a fisherman of Armação de Pêra. Fell asleep in the boat, and when he awoke, he was inside one of these caves.
It is a small beach, which to be reached, we descend through rocks and natural tunnels.
On top of the cliffs there are two viewpoints that allow you to enjoy the beautiful landscape.
To reach the Barraquinho beach, leave the EN 125 (National Road) near the International School of the Algarve, drive to South Then, just follow the road signs.
